The Pull of a Tide warrants references to several veins of music which are really too brilliant to be truly associated with Lives and Times ; the duo's attemptedly atmospheric sound and working relationship beg a Cocteau Twins reference, and Lorna Cumberland's vocals consistently invite Kate Bush comparisons, but during over 70 minutes of music on The Pull of a Tide, there's nothing even remotely resembling the quality of either of these artists. The album's only audience is likely to be found among those 4AD art-pop adherents whose love of the sound interferes with their judgment of quality.
