Blonde on Blonde is the seventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released June 20, 1966 on Columbia Records. Recording sessions began in New York in October 1965 with numerous backing musicians, including members of Dylan's live backing band, the Hawks. Though sessions continued until January 1966, they yielded only one track that made it onto the final album-"One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later)".

Dense, complex, and thoroughly moving, Dylan showed a side that was far removed from the Greenwich village folkie of a few short years before. Every track is a brilliant thematic exploration, and no two songs sound the same. The band is tight and empathetic, Robbie Robertson's guitar shows the complexity he would explore in greater depth later with the Band, and Al Kooper's organ weaves seamlessly under Dylan's world weary vocals, lifting the listener into a dream space with every listening. "Visions of Johanna" alone makes it worth the price of admission. Unforgettable, unmistakable, and ultimately undeniable.

I guess "Blonde on Blonde" is one of those albums who wouldn't need any reviews more - it is a well-known classic album. Almost every "TOP 100 Albums of All-Time" list has it - usually in TOP 10 or at least very close to it. I have heard it was the very first double album in the history of popular music. Not sure but it is possible, at least in mainstream music. It is over 70 minutes and if the album is over 50 minutes, you are almost forced to use two vinyls. I have this on my CD and it fits on one CD.The style was revolutionary in music. I have even heard that some radio stations refused to play any songs because it sounded so awful. It was very much different even in Bob Dylan's discography and the same have critics gone through with King Crimson and Black Sabbath much later. It is so new that you don't wanna listen to it. Eventually you end up being a classic.The opening song "Rainy Day Women "12 & #35" is one of my favorite songs here. It is a fantastic song musically. It is like proving a new life. "Visions of Johanna" is another good song. "Just Like a Woman" is my favorite song. It is about a girl who acts like a woman but in the end she breaks just like a little girl. "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" is a brilliant closing song - it is 11 minutes and 20 seconds - as long as "Desolation Row" on "Highway 61 Revisited" - I don't believe it is a coincidence.I love the harmonica Bob Dylan uses on his songs. You've got luminous ramblings (Stuck Inside of Mobile), fluid meditations (Visions of Johanna), scathing blues (Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat), tender ballads (Just Like A Woman), stoned-out Salvation Army marches (Rainy Day Women) and a hypnotic, transcendent, epic closer (Sad-Eyed Lady). All this makes for a journey both funny and sorrowful, raucous and lucid, imperfect yet somehow perfect.'Bringing it All Back Home' and 'Highway 61' are both masterpieces, but they really just build up to the overwhelming pinnacle of Blonde on Blonde.
