Rock Candy Funk Party is an American jazz-funk band from Los Angeles, California. It was formed in 2009 by drummer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus, who had previously released Grooove, Vol. 1 in 2007. After adding guitarist Joe Bonamassa, bassist Mike Merritt and keyboardist Renato Neto, the band released its debut album We Want Groove in 2013, which reached number 5 on the US Billboard Jazz Albums chart and number 6 on the UK Jazz & Blues Albums Chart.

Rock Candy Funk Party is the brainchild of Bonamassa's drummer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus - the two issued an album in 2007 called Grooove Vo. - who began a series of jams at Hollywood's famed jazz hotspot, The Baked Potato. Bassist Mike Merritt and keyboardist Renato Neto soon joined in, and finally Bonamassa decided to give it a go.
In Groups: Rock Candy Funk Party. Renato Neto, Joe Bonamassa, Mike Merritt, Ron DeJesus and Tal Bergman - We Want Groove (CD, Album + DVD).
The supergroup is made up of Bergman, Ron DeJesus, Joe Bonamassa, Renato Neto, and Mike Merritt, and will absolutely blow your mind. Their new record, The Groove Cubed, dropped last week and is easily in our top ten albums of the year. Tal is easily one of the most welcoming, warm, and insightful people that we have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. Like we said, you’re in for a real treat! GSLM: The new record is incredible. It’s literally like walking into a party that I am clearly not near cool enough to attend. Drunk On Bourbon On Bourbon Street is a prime example.

Drummer Tal Bergman and guitarist Ron DeJesus first collaborated on the jazz/funk album Grooove, Vol. 1 in 2007, before performing a number of jam-based shows at Hollywood jazz club The Baked Potato with various guests. As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers, according to former musician, critic, Gibbons is one of Americas finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support. The band is known for its humorous lyrics laced with double entendres.
Joe Bonamassa’s touring drummer, Tal Bergman, made an instrumental groove record with guitarist Ron DeJesus back in ’07, called Grooove Vol. 1. Well, Grooove Vol. 2 is now coming, except that it’s actually called We Want Groove. And it’s not led solely by Bergman and DeJesus, it’s now a whole group called Rock Candy Funk Party that also includes The Basic Band (Conan’s house band) Mike Merritt on bass and Renato Neto (Sheila . Dianne Reeves, Scott Henderson, Prince) on keys. Oh, and Bonamassa is along for the ride, too. Instrumental groove record is exactly what this record is, too.
