The Sonus ex machina series of works, which were developed in collaboration with Puckette, are among the first pieces to utilize real-time audio signal processing, and his 1988 piece Pluton was the first ever composition using Puckette's groundbreaking software Max. His Abgrund-pour grand orchestre was commissioned by the Bavarian State Opera together with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and premiered by the Bavarian State Orchestra on November 26, 2007. Despite an in-depth training as a pianist and composer (he attended the École Normale de Musique in Paris and Conservatoire de Paris, and was taught, among others, by Max Deutsch, a student of Schoenberg's, by Gérard Condé, Michel Philippot, and Ivan Malec) he considers himself to be self-taught.

Das Leben Philippe Manoury, French composer, was born in Tulle (1. h June 1952). He studied piano with Pierre Sancan, musical analysis with Claude Ballif, composition with Gérard Condé and Max Deutsch and from 1975 he undertook studies in computer assisted composition with Pierre Barbaud. He earned First Prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris both in analysis (1977) and composition (1978. electronics (1988) La partition du ciel et de l’enfer from Sonus ex machina for flute and 2 piano soloists, ensemble and electronics (1989) Neptune from Sonus ex machina for 3 percussionists and electronics (1991) Prélude de la nuit du sortilège (1992) La Nuit du Sortilège (1992-93) - which won an award from the UNESCO International Composers' Tribune.
