10. Down the Road I'll Go. 11. Introduction To: 12. Two English Dance Tunes: Chirping of the Nightingale/Bold Princess Royal. 14. Anecdote: Two Parrots. This album is a musical voyage with chansons/songs rich in re-encounters between england and france, blessed with magical and beautiful voices. Impossible of ignoring their hypnotiques power and inside a siderant universe. as well as: dream a little bream sung by cloé giraudo,10 years ol. er voice is as beautiful and pure as the singers of the streets and because of that.
The titular sisters are Hilary and Janet Giraudo but Simon must be mentioned sooner rather than later simply because he’s the whole of the orchestra with Hilary’s guitar and bass and a little added percussion from Simon Price. The album opens with John Masefield’s ‘Sea Fever’ in a new setting by Mayor followed by the 30s hit ‘What A Little Moonlight Can Do’ in sparkling ragtime style. Next comes ‘Auberge Au Crépuscule’, a French tango from the same period. Janet has lived in Provence for many years and both sisters sing in French like natives. From here the net is cast even wider

Hilary James and Janet Giraudo were born in Stoke-on-Trent, the family later moving to Worcestershire. Hilary remembers: ours wasn’t a musical family but I sang all the tim. n the bat. t schoo. n the par. n the street. Janet and I only started to sing together in the year or so before she disappeared to France. I taught her a few songs but then she was gone. No musical style was off limits for Songs & Chansons. Hilary’s early interest in English folk music and memories of hearing Robin & Barry Dransfield and Tim Hart & Maddy Prior gave rise to My Faithful Johnny and I Live Not Where I Love. Simon also composed two settings of English poems especially for the album: Christina Rosetti’s simple and beautiful Lullaby, and John Masefield’s evocative Sea Fever. One of the most stirring female voices in contemporary British folk music’ Craig Harris, All Music Guide.
