Al Cohn - America album download
Al Cohn's America is a jazz album by saxophonist Al Cohn, recorded in 1976 for Xanadu Records. Freed of his usual writing duties, Cohn sounds exuberant jamming through seven songs". America the Beautiful" (Katherine Lee Bates, Samuel A. Ward) - 5:04. Night and Day" (Cole Porter) - 8:34. My Shining Hour" (Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer) - 8:33. Bright" (Al Cohn) - 5:09.
In addition to some superior standards (including "My Shining Hour," "Night Aand Day" and "Skylark"), Cohn performs a memorable bossa-nova version of "America the Beautiful. This LP is recommended although, as is true with most of Xanadu releases, this music has not yet reappeared on CD. Track Listing.

AL COHN is a cool jazz, big band bop music artist. An excellent tenor saxophonist and a superior arranger/composer, Al Cohn was greatly admired by his fellow musicians. Early gigs included associations with Joe Marsala (1943), Georgie Auld, Boyd Raeburn (1946), Alvino Rey, and Buddy Rich (1947). But it was when he replaced Herbie Steward as one of the "Four Brothers" with Woody Herman's Second Herd (1948-1949) that Cohn began to make a strong impression.
