Walrus / Walrus - Walrus album download

Walrus (4) ‎– Walrus. Label: Deram ‎– SML 1072. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. Only album by British Jazz-Rock octet Walrus, which was one of the first full-blown British Jazz-Rock ensembles modeled after the American counterparts like Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago. Although not as sophisticated as If, the other British ensemble following the same path, Walrus was nevertheless quite excellent as well and it is a great pity they didn't manage to record more albums.

Walrus biography In the late sixties, bassist Steve HAWTHORN came up with an idea to fuse rock and jazz. By 1969, he'd formed WALRUS, an eight-piece monster (the band's roster in the tradition of large orchestral groups would fluctuate many times throughout Walrus's short career) and the band toured heavily around the London area. In June of the same year, WALRUS was picked up by Decca Records, handed some money, and told to produce an album. However, the outfit was not to be. Another album was never realized and by 1972, despite having attained a large and faithful live following, the band split up. Among the many WALRUS alumni, only occasional percussionist Ian MOSELY went on to musical success, becoming a member of MARILLION.

Walrus is a hidden song appearing at track 69 on Ministry’s 2004 album Houses of the Molé. The song features a single backmasked lyric repeatedly played over a similarly backmasked sample of the hook from Worm, the last official track on the same album. Written By Al Jourgensen. Release Date June 21, 2004. Houses of the Molé Ministry. 1. No "W". 2. Waiting.

I'm inclined to obscure psychedelia and this qualifies. It rocks, and jazzes with horns and normal prog songs, but lots of psy-moments. Really reminds me of Keef Hartley Band which isn't going to ring a lot of bells but they are certainly worth listening to in addition to this one album by Walrus. Jazzy flute solos and longing love songs. For today's music fans no; but just fine for prog or psychedelic fans.
