AMASONG's second album Amai, released in 1999. AMASONG's repertoire is heavily inspired by folk music from various global cultural traditions, music written by women, and other genres of music reflecting women's life experiences. AMASONG's third album Laulu Voim: The Power of Song, released in 2003. 1999, GLAMA award for Best Choral Group-For Shenandoah, an American folk song arranged by Kristina Boerger for a cappella chorus.
Amai is the recipient of two GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian Music Awards) awards. Shenandoah, Winner for Best Choral Performance and Draum om Nedsnodde Bruer, Kristina Boerger, Amasong's founding director, brought home the award for Best Contemporary Classical Composer. Amai means "mother" and "woman". AMASONG records and performs regularly. It is now under the direction of choir director, Jill Crandall. Past directors include Meagan Johnson, Esther Gille, Margot Rejskind, and Deborah Skydell.
AMASONG is a GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian American Music Award) award-winning lesbian-feminist amateur choir based in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The group was created by its founding director Kristina Boerger in 1990. The AMASONG choral group is a highly trained chorus of about 60 women who perform women-oriented, folkloric and classical music
Amasong is a 60 women strong Premier Lesbian/Feminist chorus from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Graced with traditional arrangements from around the world, this CD is both enjoyable and educational. Intense emotion and sensitivity are generated.
AMASONG announces the release of a new album of live concert recordings! Everything She Touches Changes includes music sung from 2009 to 2012 under director Meagan Smith. The album celebrates the power of change and the strength of women as creators and transformers. The CD package features details from a stunning art quilt by Nina Paley. All tracks were recorded live in McKinley Presbyterian Church.
