Consumer Guide Album. The Psychedelic Furs: Should God Forget: A Retrospective Punk engenders postpunk, which incorporates-these guys are English, after all-its essential prepunk Bowie-Ferry axis, but bypasses its equally essential pub, garage, and roots axes. All operative imperatives are purely aesthetic, powered by vagaries of taste, quiddities of form, and oddities of talent; however inevitable the resulting music may have sounded, it was obviously all pose, and just as it had no cultural significance then, it has no historical significance now. All it does is go around.

I still vividly recall the days when New Wave & Post-punk became all the rage in Honolulu. My access to music then was limited. Mostly by budget and a strong desire to avoid 8 track tapes and cheap cassettes. Every time a song by the Psychedelic Furs came on the FM radio, I would feel a sense of victory. There was a fairly progressive FM station on Oahu that offered up some choice music not heard elsewhere, which, for me, was a tremendous relief as I was so burnt out on Boston, Bad Company, et al… The (now) Classic Rock genre which incessantly filled the airwaves. This double CD release encapsulates a bunch of the hits, but also adds to them the lesser known gems [and misses] making it a smart buy for those of us wanting a retrospective. My suggestion: If you haven’t heard this band, this is an excellent introduction. Amazon has it for sale as low as $5.98 and as high as $806.94. If you’re like me, someone with a busy life, too lazy most times to burn a compilation of your holdings, then seek this little gem out. Butler’s unique manner of talking lyrically as opposed to singing is remarkable.
